IMPERIA WINTER REGATTA 470, 420 1ST DAYImperia, 8th December 2006 - Southerly wind blowing up to 19/20
knots and rough sea under a cloudy sky for the first day for 420 and 470 class Imperia Winter Regatta.
A very demanding day for the 250 boat fleet representing eleven
countries (Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Germany,
Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Monaco, Switzerland) and racing on two different sail area right in front of Port Maurizio.
After the first two hours at see in which it could be possible to
complete two races for all the classes: everyone was compelled to
come back to the harbour due to squalls.
The 420 male fleet sailed two races: in the first 4 general recalls had been fired with black flag resulting in several disqualification, while girls sailed two races on the same race area. The female fleet started as well a third race that was abandoned due to squalls. Regularly completed the program on the 470 race area (male and female racing together) with two races.
Results after 2 races:
420 Femminile: the leader of the results is the Italian team Zilioli/Privilegio, first and seconda cross the finishing line. The second team is the Dutch Keijzer/van Veen(4-1) and the third the German Lutz/Frisch (2-4).
420 Maschile: Leader of the fleet is German team Hasselmann/Rojec
(1-4); the secon one i Italian Champion Mancinelli Scotti/De Felice (6-2) and third another German team Eiermann/Boddeker (5-5). The second race was won by French team Brenac-Lacaze, onli 34th in the overall resulat as it score a BFD in the first race of the day.
470 Maschile: in this class the eve preview as been confirmed with the Italian team Zandonà/Trani scoring (1-2)the same results of second team Finish Lindgren/Elomaa (2-1). Thir team is another Italian crew, brother Dubbini from Garda lake, twice third to cross the finishing line.
470 Femminile: in female filed two German teams are in the first
position, Blaschkiewitz/Genrich twice second, and third, sister Wolf (5-3) while the second team is Finnish Saakirallio/Lehtonen (5-3). Another German victory in the second race with Berg/Struckat (9-1).
In the afternoon after the races Chairman of Yacht Club Imperia Mr. Riccardo Guatelli welcomed sailors in the marquee in Porto Maurizio Harbour.
Tomorrow, starting at 10.30 hrs. some more three races are scheduled; L'Equipe fleet as well will be at sea.
Motoplanet, area store of DUCATI, the company established in 1926 and producing sport motorbikes featuring powerful ≥desmodromics≈ engines, innovative design and vanguard technology will be present at IWR with brand new model 1098 from 8th to 10th December exhibit on the area where the boats will be parked ashore, on the harbour.
The IWR event has the contribution of the Sport, Tourism and Events Council of the town, the patronage of the local governments and the cooperation of the Coast Guard, Imperia Mare (tourist harbour of Imperia), and LNI Imperia.
